Orion Group is working with a leading infrastructure and construction client to source a Civils Design Manager to join their UK Construction team in the North of Scotland.
As the Civils Design Manager, your core responsibilities will include:
* Supporting site-based Civils project teams and early civils-related stages of building projects.
* Implementing and managing the control of the design process to ensure that the design and procurement of specialist packages meet project requirements within budget.
* Providing design input and cost-effective solutions to Work Winning/Project Delivery teams.
What you'll be doing
* Managing the development and implementation of design proposals that meet customer requirements, including budget constraints, safety, quality, ease of maintenance, energy efficiency, and environmental impact, while aligning with customer goals and community benefits.
* Briefing the Design Team effectively, managing third parties or novated design teams to ensure compliance with specifications and competence.
* Advising on the "buildability" of design proposals to the design and construction teams.
* Liaising with statutory bodies such as planning, building control, and services authorities.
* Supporting safety forums and representing the business stream as required.
* Developing and managing the design deliverables programme, ensuring timely sign-offs at each project gate, and coordinating the production of design data and documentation.
* Implementing BIM protocols, managing BIM data sharing, and liaising with BIM management during bid and construction stages.
* Applying Lean construction techniques to reduce waste and optimize costs.
Who we're looking for
* Experience in design consultancy or management within a main contracting environment.
* Strong leadership and communication skills, capable of working in a matrix organization.
* Understanding of site-based activities and BIM processes.
* Professional membership with a relevant institute (e.g., ICE, IStructE).
* Valid CSCS card.
* Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and industry-standard design tools.
