Overview
An opportunity for a highly motivated speech and language therapist to join the South Tees locality, working across the stroke pathway. The post is suitable for a Band 6 therapist developing skills across stroke services or a Band 5 with recent clinical experience. You will work with MDT colleagues across University Hospital Tees to develop future stroke service delivery and have the opportunity to develop skills within the neuro-oncology service alongside the speech and language specialist. You will be supported by an experienced team of therapists, support workers and admin staff, and you will be encouraged to participate in service improvement and quality improvement projects.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to the delivery of a high-quality service within the specialist stroke area.
* Rotational programme across the stroke pathway from hyper-acute care to in-patient rehabilitation and outpatient settings.
* Participate in a rota to deliver a 6-day service to the acute stroke unit.
* Collaborate with the neuro-oncology speech and language service and other MDT colleagues.
* Provide support and mentorship to Band 5 staff and supervise students and rehabilitation support workers; develop leadership and mentorship skills.
* Engage in service improvement, clinical governance and continuing professional development.
* Involve in recruitment activities, careers events and work experience placements where appropriate.
* Attend required training and development sessions and contribute to leadership and improvement initiatives.
Training and Development
South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust offers leadership and improvement training for new staff. You will be expected to attend the following sessions: Your Leadership Impact, Leading your Team to Success, Leading Into the Future, Service Improvement for Beginners, Developing your Service Improvement Skills, and Lean Practitioner. The programme aims to explore NHS leadership, promote values and behaviours, develop leadership effectiveness, and equip staff to lead and complete service improvements. After completing six and a half days of training, you may explore further leadership and improvement opportunities. Additional in-house and external courses are available through the Leadership and Improvement Team.
Eligibility and Compliance
It is the policy of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust that new staff requiring DBS clearance pay the DBS cost via salary deduction from the first month’s pay. The Trust supports vaccination against COVID-19 and influenza.
