The role requires strong planning capability, excellent communication skills, and a thorough understanding of UK transport law and driver compliance. Key Responsibilities Transport Planning Plan, allocate, and oversee daily vehicle movements across the UK. Maximise fleet efficiency through effective route planning and load optimisation. Coordinate customer delivery requirements, ensuring punctuality and service excellence. Identify return loads to minimise empty running and reduce operational costs. Maintain effective communication between customers, drivers, and internal departments. Driver Supervision & Compliance Conduct, driver brief and debrief as part of daily operations. Ensure full compliance with UK domestic and EU drivers’ hours, tachograph legislation, and the Working Time Directive. Monitor driver performance, hours, infringements, and behaviour using telematics and tachograph systems. Support drivers with on-road issues such as delays, route changes, or customer queries. Oversee vehicle defect reporting, maintenance scheduling, and compliance with O-Licence undertakings. Cost Control & Reporting Maintain strong understanding of operational costings including fuel, wages, subcontractors, repairs, and tolls. Analyse transport performance and highlight cost-saving opportunities. Assist in budgeting, forecasting fleet needs, and reviewing operational KPIs. Track key metrics such as fuel consumption, utilisation rates, on-time performance, and overall cost efficiency. Administration & Communication Maintain accurate records including schedules, compliance documents, and delivery paperwork. Utilise planning software, telematics systems, and Microsoft Office to manage daily activity. Prepare weekly and monthly performance reports for management review. Support wider business operations with transport-related planning and coordination. Key Skills & Experience Experience in a Transport Planner, Transport Office activities within general haulage. Strong knowledge of UK road transport legislation, drivers’ hours, tachographs, and O-Licence compliance. Strong commercial and cost-awareness skills. Excellent communication, organisational, and decision-making abilities. Confident using planning systems, telematics, and Microsoft Office. Class 1 (Category CE) HGV licence would be advantageous.
