Job Description
Westat is currently seeking motivated individuals committed to excellence and experienced in working with primary and secondary school students to work as Assessment Coordinators for the 2026 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) study. NAEP is the nation’s most comprehensive, ongoing measure of student knowledge and skills, providing nationally representative insights into what U.S. students know and can achieve across various subject areas.
The primary role of the Assessment Coordinator (AC) is to coordinate assessment logistics with school representatives and oversee assessment teams to administer digitally based assessments for grades 4, 8, and 12 in public and private schools. ACs will conduct assessments using school devices and are responsible for ensuring smooth administration, including installing the NAEP application and troubleshooting technical issues.
Success in this role requires strong technical, organizational, and interpersonal skills to manage and operate various devices used in assessments. Troubleshooting, configuration, and adaptation to different technologies are critical for seamless assessment delivery.

Basic Qualifications
* Be 18 or older (or an emancipated minor) with the ability to enter binding confidentiality agreements.
* Be a U.S. citizen.
* Complete online training modules between November and December 2025.
* Attend and complete a 2-day pre-assessment training in mid-November 2025.
* Attend and complete a 2-day assessment training in early December 2025.
* Participate in a virtual meeting in January 2026.
Minimum Requirements
* Availability from October 27, 2025, to March 27, 2026.
* Up to 40 hours per week when work is available.
* Willingness to travel regionally and overnight as needed.
* Responsibility for transporting technical equipment.
* Physical ability to lift up to 15 lbs, climb stairs, bend, move around testing locations, and stand for up to 2 hours.
* Reliable access to telephone and high-speed internet.
* Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Criteria
* Experience working with children or in schools.
* Ability to adapt to new software and troubleshoot technical issues.
* Experience with Microsoft Excel, email management, video conferencing tools.
* Patience, professionalism, problem-solving, and communication skills.
* Experience in coaching, mentoring, supervising, and working independently or in teams.
Employment may be contingent on background screening. Mileage is reimbursed. This is a part-time, non-exempt position with no initial health benefits, but eligible for sick leave and 401(k) after certain hours.
