Job Description
Key Responsibilities
* Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEN, including ASD, ADHD, speech & language needs, SEMH, and learning disabilities.
* Assist the class teacher in adapting and delivering differentiated learning activities to meet individual needs.
* Support pupils in developing independence, confidence, communication, and social skills.
* Implement strategies outlined in EHCPs, behaviour plans, and individual learning plans.
* Promote positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and well-being through consistent, nurturing support.
* Prepare and organise resources to enhance learning experiences.
* Help pupils engage with classroom routines, transitions, and sensory or therapeutic activities.
* Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCO, therapists, and external professionals to monitor progress.
* Maintain clear records of support, behaviour, and achievement where required.
* Ensure the classroom remains a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment for all pupils.
Person SpecificationEssential Skills & Qualities
* Experience working with children (SEN experience preferred but not essential).
* A positive, energetic, and proactive attitude.
* Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
* Patience, empathy, and resilience when supporting children with complex needs.
* Understanding of safeguarding, behaviour management, and inclusive practice.
* Ability to build trusting, supportive relationships with pupils.
* GCSE English & Maths (or equivalent qualifications).
* Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain).
Desirable Skills
* Experience with ASD, SEMH, or non-verbal communication strategies (PECS, Makaton).
* Training in Team Teach, First Aid, or behaviour de-escalation.
* Previous school-based or educational support experience.
