Responsibilities
* Taking responsibility for the management of all non‑food products ensuring they are presented attractively to delight customers.
* Ensure daily operations run smoothly from the shop floor to the warehouse.
* People management, including performance management, disciplinary actions, scheduling and pay accuracy.
* Assume overall responsibility for running the store, guiding colleagues to deliver for the customer.
What makes a great general merchandise manager
* Previous line management experience in a fast‑paced operational environment.
* Obsessed with customers and service, coaching a team to do the same.
* Delivers KPIs or other performance indicators.
* Manages disciplinary and employee relations matters.
* Can lead operations independently in the absence of senior management.

Qualifications
* Track record of delivering exceptional customer experiences and coaching others to raise performance standards.
* Experience leading teams in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment such as retail, food service, or hospitality.
* Ability to solve business problems and keep teams focused on delivering for customers.
* Success in achieving a range of KPIs – sales, stock availability, customer satisfaction, colleague engagement.
* Experience managing complex people matters, including performance, absence and formal employee‑relations cases.
