About the role


At Crawley Borough Council, we are dedicated to creating a vibrant, inclusive, and forward-thinking community. Our Digital & Transformation division is at the heart of our mission to innovate and enhance the services we provide to our residents. We are seeking a passionate and experienced Information Security Officer to join our team and lead our efforts in safeguarding our digital assets and ensuring compliance with data protection laws.

This is a part-time role, working 18.5 hours a week.

Key Responsibilities:

* Lead the identification, assessment, and management of cyber security risks across the organisation
* Develop and implement security policies, procedures, and controls
* Provide expert advice and due diligence in the procurement of IT systems and services
* Analyse systems and applications for security vulnerabilities and recommend solutions
* Collaborate with various teams to safeguard digital assets and support secure procurement
* Monitor emerging technologies and evolving security threats
* Promote a culture of information security awareness throughout the organisation
* Lead on incident management, including response planning and business continuity

Qualifications and Experience:

* Educated to degree level in ICT or equivalent
* A qualification or accreditation in Information Security is desirable
* Experience in application selection processes and analysis of technology platforms for information security compliance
* Experience in training staff in cyber/information security matters
* Strong understanding of cyber security and information security standards and strategies

Skills and Abilities:

* Effective analytical skills to establish if products fit our Information Security Standards
* Good data structure and management skills
* Strong communication skills at all levels
* Ability to work collaboratively and develop effective customer relationships
