Ceded reinsurance specialist/manager

This is a high-visibility role where you will shape risk transfer strategy, engage directly with reinsurers and MGAs, and make a measurable impact on our growth and resilience.
You will work alongside the Head of Reinsurance in managing all aspects of the reinsurance program, including treaty purchasing, reinsurance operations, data submissions, broker management, counterparty security, and collateral analysis.
This role will lead the reinsurance purchasing process alongside the Head of Reinsurance, providing both technical and strategic expertise to ensure that you secure efficient, robust, and timely reinsurance structures. You will also act as a trusted partner to internal teams and external stakeholders, ensuring the company is seen as a respected and credible buyer of reinsurance in the marketplace and by its MGA partners.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic & Market Engagement
Lead treaty and facultative reinsurance placements, including program design, negotiation, and execution.
Manage and establish relationships with reinsurers, brokers, and MGAs, building strong partnerships and enhancing market reputation.
Identify innovative reinsurance structures at MGA and Group level that meet strategic objectives and can be effectively placed in the market.
Monitor market developments and provide insights on emerging trends, opportunities, and risks.
Operational Management
Oversee the full reinsurance cycle, including slips, wordings, collateral agreements, amendments, and treaty administration.
Create high-quality, detailed reinsurance information packs tailored to reinsurers’ needs, ensuring optimal placement terms.
Maintain accurate and timely records of reinsurance treaties, correspondence, and supporting documentation.
Drive improvements in data quality, reporting, and systems to enhance reinsurance efficiency and automation.
Financial & Risk Oversight
Monitor ceded premium, recoverables, and financial reporting related to reinsurance.
Partner with Finance and Accounting to ensure accurate booking, settlement, and reporting of ceded transactions.
Support Actuarial in assessing reinsurance recoveries, reserves, and pricing assumptions.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal controls, and industry best practices across all reinsurance activities.
Regularly evaluate the performance and effectiveness of reinsurance structures, providing recommendations for optimization.
Regularly assess the cost-benefit of reinsurance programs, driving innovation and efficiency in risk transfer strategies.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Build strong working relationships with Actuarial, Capital, Accounting, Underwriting, Due Diligence, and Claims teams.
Engage with MGA partners to understand underwriting changes and adjust reinsurance submissions accordingly.
Provide clear, timely reporting and presentations to management and stakeholders on reinsurance strategy, placements, and performance.
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE
Reinsurance Expertise: Deep understanding of the reinsurance value chain, including buying, underwriting, and broking.
Strategic Insight: Ability to align reinsurance optimization with broader business strategy.
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to produce clear reports, present to senior stakeholders, and engage effectively with external partners.
Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret large datasets, apply actuarial/financial models, and translate insights into actionable recommendations.
Problem-Solving: Strong technical and commercial judgment, with the ability to resolve complex reinsurance challenges.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS office. Working knowledge of reinsurance systems is a plus. Experience with data visualization or reinsurance/insurance analytics tools (e.g., Tableau, SQL, or equivalent) is an advantage.
Insurance Knowledge: Familiarity with underwriting practices across multiple classes of (re)insurance and how reinsurance pricing drives terms.
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Accounting, Actuarial Science, or a related field preferred.
Professional designations such as CII qualifications, ARe (Associate in Reinsurance), or CPCU preferred.
EXPERIENCE
5+ years’ experience in ceded reinsurance, treaty management, or related insurance/reinsurance roles.
Strong knowledge of reinsurance structures (proportional, excess of loss, facultative, catastrophe).
Demonstrated success in negotiations with reinsurers and brokers.
Demonstrated ability to mentor junior team members or lead project groups.
Exposure to multiple regulatory environments and reinsurance markets .
Experience implementing or working with reinsurance systems.
