An excellent development opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed pharmacy technician to gain specialised oncology skills in a clinical role. This full‑time position is based at the Sir William Rous Unit at Kingston Hospital within the Clinical Pharmacy team.
Key responsibilities include:
* Develop, maintain and manage the safe, efficient, and cost‑effective supply of medicines to patients on the Sir William Rous Unit.
* Deliver quality care to patients at day‑unit level through efficient medicines optimisation by individual patient dispensing and patient/carer education on medicines.
* Dispense, final‑check and issue medicines to deliver a safe service.
* Support clinical audits, data collection and implementation of developments to enhance patient needs.
* Support the Day Unit Pharmacists with the delivery of service developments associated with medicine optimisation to meet local and national requirements.
* Act as practice supervisor for trainee pharmacy staff when required.
* Support the implementation of self‑administration by patients and/or carers where possible.
* Conduct ward top‑up services and provide daily order lists, managing the receipt of parenteral SACT prepared and delivered from the Aseptic/SACT Distribution Unit.
* Ensure patients receiving ‘to take out’ (TTO) medication are appropriately counselled, undertaking specific accreditations for counselling supportive and anti‑cancer medicines.
* Liaise with pharmacy staff to resolve technical queries or problems, referring to a pharmacist when required.
* Liaise on drug‑related issues with primary healthcare professionals for patients being discharged.
* Ensure dispensary stock is stored and rotated correctly; manage stock ordering, distribution and control, including ward top‑up service.
* Participate in clinical audit and data collection, including medicines safe & secure and other research and development activities.
Additional requirements:
* Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
* Accredited checking pharmacy technician.
* Practice supervisor qualification.
* Availability to work Saturday service and bank holiday service on the Sutton site.
