Axcis Education is recruiting a Trainee SEND Learning Support Assistant on behalf of a specialist day school for young people aged 11–16 with complex needs. This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to begin or develop a career in SEND support, working in a school that combines academic learning with therapeutic support.
Role Overview
As a Trainee SEND Learning Support Assistant, the successful candidate will:
* Support students in classrooms, small groups, or 1:1, helping them engage with lessons and achieve their learning goals.
* Use visual aids, assistive communication tools, and personalised strategies to support understanding and participation.
* Assist students in developing social, emotional, and communication skills, as well as independence and life skills.
* Help implement individual learning plans and EHCP outcomes, observing and reporting progress to the wider team.
* Contribute to a safe, positive, and supportive school environment where students feel valued and understood.
* Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure a consistent, collaborative approach.
Person Specification
* Axcis Education is looking for candidates who:
* Have an interest in working with young people with SEND, particularly those with SEMH, communication difficulties, or autism spectrum conditions.
* Demonstrate patience, empathy, adaptability, and resilience.
* Can work effectively as part of a team and take guidance from experienced staff.
* Are reliable, positive, and motivated to make a difference in students’ lives.
* Are open to learning and development, with a commitment to building skills in SEND support.
