About the role
Balfour Beatty is seeking an experienced Utilities Coordinator to join our team delivering the North Hykeham Relief Road (NHRR) project in Lincoln. This is a key role within the project team, responsible for managing statutory utility diversions and service protection across the scheme. With multiple existing services running through the route, effective coordination with utility owners, subcontractors and project teams is critical to ensuring the works progress safely and efficiently.
As Utilities Coordinator, you will provide expert guidance on safe systems of work around underground services, oversee the permit to break ground process, and coordinate diversion activities to minimise risk and avoid service strikes. You’ll also play an important role in maintaining accurate utility records and ensuring that both existing and newly installed services are properly documented throughout the lifecycle of the project.
What you’ll be doing
* Managing and coordinating statutory authority (utility) diversions across the project
* Liaising directly with utility companies, subcontractors and project teams to ensure timely diversion of existing apparatus
* Leading the implementation of permit to break ground and permit to dig systems to minimise service strike risk
* Managing trial hole investigations and service identification activities
* Maintaining and updating utility drawings and records, including as-built information for future network maintenance
* Reviewing method statements and risk assessments to ensure safe working near live services
* Monitoring the effectiveness of services detection and training across the workforce
* Producing regular reports on utilities status, diversions and service strikes
* Coordinating traffic management and programme activities associated with utility works
* Supporting project governance through accurate documentation, reporting and stakeholder communication
* Working with designers, engineers and commercial teams to resolve technical and contractual issues related to utilities
Who we’re looking for
* Experience working in a Utilities Coordinator, Statutory Services Coordinator or similar role on infrastructure or civil engineering projects
* Strong knowledge of working around underground services and utility diversion processes
* Experience liaising with statutory undertakers and utility asset owners
* Good understanding of permit to dig / permit to break ground systems
* Experience managing trial hole investigations and service detection activities
* Ability to interpret drawings and maintain accurate utility records and documentation
* Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work
* NRSWA Supervisor accreditation, SMSTS, CSCS card and a full UK driving licence
