Paediatric Cross Sectional Lead Radiographer

Manchester Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Paediatric Cross Sectional Lead Radiographer for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital site

The successful candidate should have significant experience in leading and developing an MRI and CT service, teaching and training more junior staff and in service management.

You will be expected to undertake both clinical work and manage the service within Royal Manchester Children's Hospital across 1 MRI Scanner and 1 CT Scanner. The successful candidate will be expected to deputise for the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital site lead when required.

Safety is of paramount importance, and you will act as the MRI responsible person for MRI and the Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) for CT, always ensuring the highest safety standards within the department. The successful applicant will also take a lead within the department for the safe administration of all contrast and medicines to patients, in line with the PGDs in place, and ensure all other staff within the department are doing the same.

Main duties of the job

Professional Leadership and Management

Act as lead radiographer for the MR and CT imaging services at RMCH, seeking ways to develop the service. Provide expert support and leadership for the other senior radiographers and support staff working within the area.

Working collaboratively with the site lead, manage the day-to-day radiographic staffing levels within the departments, ensuring all areas have sufficient staff to provide the service.

Work closely with the Divisional modality leads for MRI and CT, and other CT and MR modality site leads in the trust to ensure a consistent approach to all aspects of the service across the division to ensure optimum efficiency and effective and supportive management at all times.

In collaboration with the modality site leads, operations and waiting list managers, manage the demand and capacity for both OP and IP referrals. Ensure effective processes are in place to monitor the scheduling and prevention of cancellation of scans, initiating any action plans that will assist the service and meet corporate and government targets.

Lead on the training of all staff within MR and CT, to ensure they are competent and supported in delivering a high-quality service. This includes managing the competency based clinical training program for all new cross sectional radiographers, local induction for new starters, identifying training needs for existing staff, supporting regular CPD opportunities and ensuring mandatory training is completed annually.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* BSc Diagnostic Radiography or DCR
* HCPC registered
* Management Qualification
* Teaching qualification


Experience

* Extensive experience as a CT and MRI Radiographer
* Evidence of multi-modality knowledge
* Experience as a senior Radiographer with experience in leading and supervising juniors
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Understand recent developments in the NHS.
* Extensive experience of teaching and supervising undergraduate and qualified Radiographers and trainee Radiographers
* Able to demonstrate leadership involvement in quality improvement, transformation and innovation


Personal Attributes

* Able to comply with the Trust's moving and handling guidelines subject to reasonable adjustment under the Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
* Flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the service
* Ability to demonstrate empathy and understanding in pressured or difficult situations with service users or staff
* Ability to commute between sites
* Ability to respond and adapt to constructive feedback and deliver the same where appropriate.
