The role is based within the Economic Crime Unit and reports to the Financial Investigation Manager. Vacancies are at Horsham Police Station and Lewes HQ.
Through financial investigation, the successful candidate will support Divisions / Forces in targeting criminals and assisting with financial enquiries for major and other investigations.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Identifying and pursuing opportunities for criminal asset recovery via confiscation and civil recovery powers to disrupt criminal activity.
2. Acting as a point of reference for officers regarding financial investigations, assisting with referrals, and liaising with financial institutions.
3. Preparing complex reports, statements, and providing expert evidence in court, including strategic negotiations for asset removal.
4. Leading financial investigations, especially in 'criminal lifestyle' offences such as drug trafficking, people trafficking, and counterfeiting.
5. Developing financial profiles, analysing evidence, and interpreting financial intelligence from all sources.
6. Managing the financial aspects of designated operations, liaising with case officers, and contributing to investigation development.
7. Assessing cases for applications of orders under POCA and other legislation, and preparing necessary documentation.
8. Delivering training on financial investigation topics and ensuring awareness of relevant legislation.
9. Undertaking other duties as required, including similar or lower graded tasks.
Essential experience and skills include:
* Investigative experience, with evidence of leading investigations, particularly in financial offences.
* Ability to produce clear, concise reports and present evidence in court.
* Good oral communication and interpersonal skills.
* Proficiency in MS Office 365 applications.
* Ability to analyse large quantities of information and work under pressure.
* Knowledge of legislation including POCA, PACE, and others.
Desirable skills include:
* Full NCA accreditation as a financial investigator with current powers.
* Experience with police systems and procedures.
* Full UK manual driving license and willingness to travel.
The salary starts at the bottom of the range and is pro-rata for less than full-time hours.
