Job Summary
Consultant in Anaesthetics with an Interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia. This is an additional post comprising 10 Programmed Activities: 7.5 Direct Clinical Care and 1.5 Supporting Professional Activities. The post plan follows a two‑weekly pattern providing a range of clinical activities to maintain skills, with supervision of Anaesthesia Associates in a 2:1 or 1:1 capacity on high‑turnover or higher ASA lists.
Responsibilities
Main duties include providing consultant‑delivered anaesthetic services for all specialties for which the consultant has appropriate training, based on service need. The post holder also:
* Participates in continuing professional development and attains RECA CPD standards.
* Undertakes teaching and training.
* Participates in appraisal and job planning processes.
* Is involved in and aware of the Trust’s clinical governance.
* Participates in clinical audit.
Essential Qualifications
* Relevant professional qualifications.
* Degree from a recognised university.
Desirable Qualifications
* FFPMRCA qualification.
Experience – Essential
* Clinical training and experience equivalent to UK CCST/CST.
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for patient care and offer expert clinical opinion in the specialty.
Experience – Desirable
* Training/experience in Intrathecal Pump management and refill.
* Experience in undertaking ultrasound‑guided interventional procedures.
* Ability to manage and lead the specialist unit if required.
GMC Registration – Essential
* Eligible for entry in the GMC specialist register (within 6 months).
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
