R&D Workshop Technician
Job summary
Application of basic engineering and manufacturing principles and techniques in supporting the development of furniture products. Will work under direct instruction and supervision. Work is reviewed to evaluate quality of output.
Specific responsibilities
1. Support new development projects from conception to implementation.
2. Support prototyping of parts and assemblies for the PD, Options and maintenance engineering teams.
3. Working within the department to build an in-house prototype production cell, that supports low volume, complex manufacturing and exotic materials.
4. Help with the development, design and building of manufacturing jigs and fixtures.
5. Building relationships with all the operational teams to continually refine and improve the process of reducing time-to-market opportunities.
6. Commissioning of samples or prototypes associated with assigned projects
7. Advise the PD engineering, Options and production engineering teams on the best
8. Supporting the Model shop manager in all forms of prototyping and modelmaking.
9. Safe use of all Model shop equipment to support prototyping.
10. Competent in the use of the following equipment: CNC Mill and Lathe, Press brake, Sheet metal guillotine, etc
11. Training will be provided on the safe use of all equipment
12. Support the running of 3D printing capability
13. Ordering and control of standard part store.
14. Computer skills allowing the manipulation of CAD data for manufacture

Job holder requirements
22. Ideally a degree in model making or qualified machinist
23. Ideally 2 – 4 years experience in hands on workshop
24. Good communication skills in a small team and across the business
25. Self starter with good time management.
26. Ideally Basic 3D CAD skills
27. Sheet metal fabrication skills
