Site Environmental Advisor
Location: Cardiff City Centre (within walking distance of Cathays train station)
Salary: Circa £40,000 DOE
Are you passionate about the environment and experienced in site-based environmental management? We're looking for a Site Environmental Advisor (Environmental Clerk of Works) to join our team and support construction projects across South Wales and South West England.
You'll be based primarily on-site, working closely with the site team, Project Ecologist, Environmental Co-ordinator, and other specialists to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, licences, and best practice. This role plays a key part in delivering high environmental standards and effective risk management during construction.
Main Duties
Conduct site-based environmental auditing and monitoring of works.
Identify environmental risks in advance and support the contractor in proactive planning and mitigation.
Review site conditions prior to works and advise on corrective actions where necessary.
Assist in preparing Construction Environmental Management Plans, method statements, and other key documentation.
Develop and implement Environmental Permit to Work systems, and maintain ECoW observations and reporting.
Verify contractor documentation, including RAMS, ITPs, and MAFs, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
Liaise with contractors, sub-contractors, authorities, and internal project teams on site-related matters.
Support or participate in Environmental Liaison Group and other consultation meetings.
Set up and conduct noise, air quality, and water quality monitoring.
Undertake or coordinate ecological surveys and environmental monitoring.
Review technical queries and contribute to construction process reviews.
Perform site inspections and oversee materials management.
Gather and collate data for environmental awards such as CEEQUAL or Constructing Excellence.
Essential Skills & Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of relevant, site-based environmental experience.
Strong understanding of construction methodologies and environmental management on active sites.
Working knowledge of water management, noise, and air quality monitoring.
Competent in Microsoft Office 365 (GIS knowledge an advantage; training provided if needed).
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Strong grasp of Health & Safety and hazard identification.
Full UK driving licence.
CSCS card.
Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CIEEM, IEMA).
Desirable Qualifications & Experience:
Degree in Landscape, Environmental Sciences, or Engineering (or equivalent experience).
Knowledge of early identification and management of invasive non-native species (INNS).
Holding protected species licences is advantageous.
