£40 per hour
37 hours per week | Welwyn Hatfield based - Hybrid (2–3 days in office)

We are seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Environmental Health Officer to join their Resident Services and Climate Change team on an interim basis. This role requires a confident and proactive officer who can manage a varied caseload within a busy Private Sector Housing Team. You will be responsible for investigating complaints, carrying out HHSRS inspections and enforcement, undertaking HMO licensing inspections, and supporting complex and high-risk cases.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct HHSRS inspections and take appropriate enforcement action
Undertake proactive and reactive HMO licensing inspections
Enforce housing legislation including the Housing Act 2004, Environmental Protection Act 1990, Housing and Planning Act 2016, and related regulations
Serve legal notices, carry out works in default, obtain warrants, and support prosecutions
Assess empty properties and work with owners to bring them back into use
Support accredited landlords and student accommodation standards
Assist colleagues with complex investigations
The successful candidate will have strong legislative knowledge, experience in enforcement action, and the ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
