Recruit with Purpose are supporting a Housing Association in the North East who are looking for Database Administrator to join the team.
In this key role within their IT department, you’ll be responsible for overseeing, maintaining, and securing their backend databases ensuring colleagues have the reliable tools and data they need to deliver exceptional service every day.
What You’ll Be Doing:
High Availability & Disaster Recovery:
* Configure and maintain high availability solutions such as SQL Server Always On, database mirroring, and clustering to minimise downtime and ensure business continuity.
* Develop, test, and manage database backup and recovery procedures to protect data integrity.
Performance Optimisation:
* Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, optimise queries, and fine-tune system configurations for peak performance.
Development & Integration:
* Support the development of integration solutions between systems and platforms.
* Contribute to improvements and migrations across both on-premises and cloud environments.
Version Control & Documentation:
* Manage database scripts and schema changes using version control tools.
* Maintain clear and accurate documentation of database designs, workflows, and configurations.
Collaboration & Communication:
* Work closely with developers, system administrators, analysts, and business stakeholders to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable database solutions.
* Communicate technical information clearly and effectively.
What they’re Looking For:
* Proven experience in database administration and data engineering.
* Strong understanding of proactive monitoring, backup and recovery, and high availability solutions.
* Hands-on experience with ETL tools and processes (e.g. SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Informatica, Talend).
* Working knowledge of open-source RDBMS (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).
* Experience with the Redgate suite of tools (Backup Pro, SQL Monitor, SQL Toolbelt).
* Experience with version control systems (e.g. GitHub, Bitbucket).
* Background in IT operations, including 2nd or 3rd-line support.
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex ideas clearly.
