Job Description:
Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.
When you join Caterpillar, you'rejoining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don'tjust talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.
The Condition Based Engineering (CBE) team is responsible within Solar Turbines for developing and deploying Digital Twins of our existing gas turbines fleet. As a Performance Analyst in the Condition Based Engineering team you will solve real world engineering problems and pioneer the development of engine prediction capabilities for our fleet of gas turbines.
Our digital twins combine engine data, reduced order physics models and machine learning to predict and optimize the life of critical gas turbine components subjected to real world operation. This allows Solar to support customers directly through aftermarket services, equipment life extension and risk management.
To support this growing initiative, the organization is looking for problem solvers in Performance Engineering to add to our existing team of analysts. This individual will thrive on developing innovative solutions to enhance the predictive capabilities of our existing models and tools.
What You Will Do:
Modelling: Develop engine performance models and tools to support the development of our Digital Twins.
Team Participation: Actively utilize your engineering and analytical skills as a vital member of our team.
Initiative: Propose, promote, and act on your own initiatives and ideas to drive progress and innovation.
Engagement: Be highly engaged in collaborative problem solving applying your background to push quick resolutions and long-term innovation.
Collaboration: Work effectively within international intradisciplinary teams to achieve common goals and enhance outcomes.
What You Have:
Educational Background: MEng degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or related degree, and 5+ year’s experience applying your knowledge to solve real world problems.
Managing Multiple Priorities: Willingness to manage workload with multiple competing priorities while managing complicated and challenging tasks effectively.
Effective Communications: Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
Task Completion Excellence: Exhibit a dedicated ability to consistently complete assigned tasks with efficiency and thoroughness. You will have an eye for detail.
International Workforce: CBE is an international team spanning India to the US and so experience of collaborating with remote workers to achieve team deliverables.
Top Candidates Will Have:
Educational Background: MSc or equivalent degree with specialty in gas turbines
Technical Excellence: Experience with understanding, modelling, and troubleshooting Gas Turbine operability and performance (thermodynamics). Experience with control systems and control software is an advantage to the successful candidate.
Tools Development: Experience using software tools (Python, Matlab, NPSS) to automate complex engineering tasks to improve accuracy, efficiency and quality of performance models.
Big Picture Thinking: You will understand where Performance modelling fits in the wider prediction of engine performance and life. You will have experience collaborating with other departments for example: controls, thermals, combustion and lifing.
Experience with the following software tools is highly desirable:
* Experience using NPSS (Numerical Propulsion System Simulation) or similar Multiphysics 1-D codes.
* VBA/Visual Basic, C, C++, C#, Fortran
* MATLAB, Simulink, Python
* Microsoft Office Applications
We offer a wide range of worldwide career opportunities in Solar Turbines, a multinational part of Caterpillar Group, and a very competitive package.
