We are seeking an experienced, hardware-focused Electronics Engineer to join our client's collaborative team of hardware and software engineers. You will take responsibility for the design, development, and testing of electronic hardware from initial specification through to production, while supporting colleagues and maintaining strong communication with customers. All engineering roles at the business are customer-facing, offering a unique opportunity to combine technical expertise with direct client engagement.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, prototype, and simulate hardware to ensure high first-pass success rates on A-model designs.
• Develop and manage complex electronic hardware designs, including schematic capture and multi-layer PCB layout (typically 2–8 layers, mixed-signal).
• Work with a range of technologies including MCU/MPU, RF systems, DC-DC and AC-DC power, analog sensors, digital logic, FPGAs, and memory devices.
• Validate, test, and debug hardware using lab equipment; travel to external test facilities when required.
• Apply Design for Testability (DFT), Design for Manufacture (DFM), and Design for Production (DFP) principles throughout the product lifecycle.
• Review electronics designs against industry best practices and provide clear, high-quality documentation.
• Offer technical guidance to customers, supporting their problem-solving and development needs.
• Communicate effectively with customers to provide updates, answer technical queries, and maintain excellent service throughout project lifecycles.
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree (2:1 or higher) in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a hardware design role.
• Prior experience in a customer-facing or consultancy-based engineering role.
Technical Skills
• Proficient with Altium Designer (preferred); training available for the right candidate.
• Experience with other eCAD tools (Eagle, KiCAD, Fusion, PADS) is beneficial.
• Strong hands-on experience in hardware design, test, and debugging using lab equipment.
• Familiarity with IoT-style embedded systems and mixed-signal architectures.
• Comprehensive understanding of Design for Compliance (DfC), EMC, Design for Testability (DFT), Design for Manufacture (DFM), and Design for Production (DFP). Attributes
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to produce clear documentation understandable by non-engineering stakeholders.
• Self-motivated, efficient, and able to manage workload with support from team leads.
