The role
For the Defense Engineering & Technology organization in the Netherlands, we are looking for an Engineering Team Lead. The Engineering Team Lead plays a pivotal role in bringing the deliverables for Technology Development and Engineering projects to success on time and within budget. You will be part of a dedicated, multidisciplinary project team within GKN Fokker Aerospace and responsible for leading a team with various engineering functions to deliver project or Technology Development objectives on schedule, within budget, and to technical requirements. The Engineering Team Lead reports to the Chief Engineer of the Structures & General product group.
In this role, you will
* Lead an engineering team to deliver assigned tasks, achieving project or functional objectives through planning, work tasking, and execution.
* Develop technical solutions compliant with customer, regulatory, and airworthiness requirements within schedule and manufacturing constraints.
* Identify and solve technical problems proactively.
* Support project bids and proposals with engineering activities.
* Manage and mitigate technical risks of activities.
* Create test specifications/plans to demonstrate design compliance with certification requirements.
* Ensure designs are cost-effective using techniques like DFMA and design to cost.
* Define and verify overall design definitions, including dimensions, materials, parts, and tolerances.
* Ensure project deliverables are signed, checked, and approved per quality processes.
* Support technical and customer reviews, including gate reviews, with technical data and presentations.
* Perform activities independently across multiple work packages and oversee others.
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the engineering team.
* Ensure knowledge and data are captured, transmitted, and stored in compliance with quality processes.
* Collaborate with the Chief Engineer to implement business objectives.
* Manage team performance, engagement, and development through performance plans, training, and mentoring.
* Ensure the team has necessary capabilities and tools, escalating needs as required.
* Provide KPIs and updates to senior management for continuous improvement.
* Create a positive workplace environment through meetings, engagement, and coaching.
* Assess customer satisfaction and implement actions accordingly.
* Support manufacturing engineering for material and process definitions related to design.
* Oversee material and process qualification to ensure compliance.
In this role, you need
You are proactive, self-starting, entrepreneurial, and a team player. You have multidisciplinary experience, are willing to learn, and can organize effectively. You bring passion and expertise, with skills including:
* High-level engineering knowledge, typically at level 4 or higher in a relevant area, with some interdisciplinary experience.
* Business expertise in the aerospace industry related to your project’s focus.
* Technical project leadership experience, ensuring on-time and within-budget delivery.
* Strong technical problem-solving skills.
* Understanding of cost impacts related to technical activities.
* Excellent interpersonal skills for managing technical teams and interfaces.
* 8-10+ years of relevant aerospace engineering experience in multidisciplinary teams.
* Ability to act independently within governance frameworks.
* Skill in communicating technical information across levels.
* Ability to serve as an integrator in customer-facing roles.
* Commercial awareness to analyze customer needs and contribute to bid packages.
