Category Manager needed in Wembley, £55,155 – £58,248 p.a PAYE – Reference: 5242584
1. Help the client achieve its desired outcomes for residents, businesses, and communities through excellent commercial advice. Work in partnership with the relevant Department, acting as a key strategic adviser on complex procurement matters, managing high-value, complex, and/or risky procurement projects for the council. Provide expert technical information, advice, and guidance on all aspects of the procurement process to internal customers and effectively deal with third-party suppliers as external customers of Brent’s processes and service delivery partners.
2. Support the Category teams by working collaboratively, leading specific procurement projects, and taking full accountability for delivery.
3. Lead on bespoke special projects, which may include developing new processes, procedures, and policies as designated by the Head of Procurement.
Ideal candidate should have:
1. Evidence of significant relevant Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
2. Expert knowledge of public procurement processes.
3. Knowledge and understanding of e-procurement tendering portals.
4. Awareness of the wider policy context for public procurement, e.g., the Transparency Agenda, Social Value, London Living Wage, Modern Slavery, Sustainability.
5. Knowledge of local government decision-making and service planning.
6. Broad knowledge of procurements ranging from Social Care to Construction.
7. Significant experience managing procurements in a large, complex organization.
8. Experience managing end-to-end procurement processes in a public sector setting.
9. Proven ability to work successfully with a broad range of internal and external customers.
10. Experience driving improvements to processes and performance.
11. Ability to understand key deliverables and provide clear advice and direction throughout procurement projects.
12. Experience working across various procurement categories, dealing with and overcoming specific challenges within those categories.
