Advanced Therapies Wales Project Manager
Advanced Therapies Wales (ATW) is a Velindre University NHS Trust (VUNHST) hosted Programme based in the Welsh Blood Service (WBS), supporting the NHS Wales-wide adoption of cell and gene advanced therapies and the delivery of Welsh Government's Advanced Therapies Statement of Intent through the Delivery Plan for Advanced Therapies in Wales.
The Project Manager will provide high‑quality project management and support within the ATW Programme to ensure successful delivery of key initiatives. The role requires establishing credibility with a diverse range of stakeholders and applying strategic, planning and performance management skills.
This is a fixed term/secondment position for 10 months until March 2027. Eligibility is restricted to those with permission from their current line manager.
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities include:
* Ensure successful delivery of projects and sub‑projects, meeting required quality standards and delivering within time and cost constraints.
* Refine and improve project documentation.
* Support the Head of Programmes, ensuring projects produce results that achieve the benefits defined in the Delivery Plan.
* Ensure project timelines are adhered to, enforce robust reporting, and manage risks and issues, escalating when appropriate.
* Demonstrate sound judgement in managing internal and external stakeholders, maintaining a professional climate under pressure.
* Apply advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly MS Project, to maximise technological efficiency.
Qualifications and Knowledge
* Degree level education or equivalent experience.
* PRINCE2 Foundation (formal or informal, or willingness to work towards attainment).
* Evidence of further development, such as a postgraduate diploma or equivalent experience.
Experience
* Previous experience planning and managing low‑complexity work packages or projects successfully within time and cost constraints.
* Good knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to master new applications.
* Knowledge of project planning, monitoring and control techniques (e.g. PRINCE2).
* Knowledge of budgeting and resource allocation procedures.
* Experience working in healthcare.
* Experience and understanding of information and technology management issues within the healthcare environment.
* Experience and understanding of change and configuration management within the project environment.
* Knowledge of procurement processes, including contract negotiations.
Skills and Attributes
* Track record of problem solving in a project management environment.
* Competence in desktop applications.
* Strong report drafting and action‑point recording skills.
* Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with project teams, stakeholders and third‑party service providers.
* Capacity to understand the wider objectives of the project.
* Welsh language skills desirable at level 1 in understanding, speaking, reading and writing.
