The Business Support Manager role will focus specifically on the day to day business management of the services delivered by the Trust, including but not limited to performance and contractual management, involvement in business opportunities processes, and undertaking of internal and external business liaison activities.

The Business Support Manager will contribute to the production and negotiation of contracts, agree and implement contract performance and monitoring activities including escalation where appropriate for under-delivery, and ensure coordination and communication across all internal and external stakeholders, including Trust departments such as Finance, Quality, Performance and Information.

The post holder will support the development and implementation of the Trust performance management framework, work with colleagues across the operational service areas to review and improve performance, meeting local and national requirements, and produce timely and accurate reports to facilitate this.

The post holder will support the wider Business Services team with regular and ad-hoc activities and requirements as needed.


Main duties of the job

Essential criteria

* Able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of operational business issues within the health and broader public sector community
* Ability to collate and analyse information and produce concise reports and presentations for a wide variety of audiences
* Excellent skills in information technology especially in a commercial or business environment
* Ability to find creative solutions to problems
* Ability to adapt to changing situations and develop solutions to meet changing priorities
* Understanding of the NHS and the likely changes over the next few years


Desirable criteria

* Understanding of business or service performance management
* Understanding of contract production and management


Qualifications - Academic/Skills/Professional


Essential criteria

* Undergraduate degree or equivalent
* Evidence of continuing professional and personal development


Desirable criteria

* Prince 2 or equivalent Project Management qualification


Further Training or Job Related Aptitude and Skills


Essential criteria

* Ability to analyse, form a sound judgement and report on data and information
* Numerate and financially aware
* Ability to inspire confidence and respect of others through excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills
* Ability to effectively facilitate meetings and reviews
* Ability to prepare reports to a good and effective standard and to deliver work within tight deadlines

Experience


Essential criteria

* Significant experience of supporting business and commercial activities – with particular experience of contracts and commercial performance
* Experience of writing bids and tender responses and producing specifications with support from operational service areas
* A broad experience of supporting competitive public service business and commercial environments
* Experience of service line reporting and finance
* Significant experience of working with and supporting highly effective and dynamic teams
* Experience of providing in-depth business and contractual support to directorates, service areas and operational front line team, in particular where commercial and contract reporting are key outputs
* Ability to support simultaneous requests for analysis and reporting in response on a broad range of subjects
* Experience of developing business cases and managing small to medium change activities


Desirable criteria

* Significant experience within the health sector, demonstrating successful delivery
* Managing and developing staff
