Overview
London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) cares for the people of Brent, Ealing, Harrow and beyond. Our team of more than 8,200 clinical and support staff serve a diverse population of almost one million people.
We provide anaesthetic services for three sites: Central Middlesex Hospital (includes St Marks Hospital and Elective Orthopaedic Centre), Ealing Hospital and Northwick Park Hospital. Surgical specialties include elective and emergency general surgery, gynaecology, urology, trauma and orthopaedics, ENT, urology, vascular, endoscopy and regional services for Head and Neck, oromaxillofacial surgery and colorectal. They will also become part of a group of more than 60 consultant anaesthetists/intensivists who provide anaesthetic services for theatres and other areas of the hospital including the obstetric unit. The appointees will need to be willing and able to contribute to a future shared vision with colleagues across all hospitals in London.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Expertise
* Experience in the management of high risk patients including obstetrics, complex airways and paediatric anaesthesia. Recent experience and capabilities to manage the critically ill children.
* oNHS experience within the last 3 years. oExperience as a Locum Consultant at an acute hospital. oAPLS/EPLS, ALS oSIA/fellowship or equivalent in anaesthesia relevant to LNWUH (e.g. paeds, regional anaesthesia, obstetrics, major general, peri-operative medicine, airway) for elective and/or emergency anaesthesia (to cover NPH and EH anaesthetic consultant oncalls).
Management and Audit
* Understands the managerial, administrative and organisational roles expected of consultants
* Evidence of service audit, quality improvement or change management
* Leadership skills
* Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively
* Ability to plan strategically and to exercise sound judgements when faced with conflicting pressures
* IT skills and computer literacy
* Management qualification or current study towards management qualification
* Familiarity with electronic patient records such as Cerner
Qualifications and Experience
* FRCA (or equivalent). Completion of specialist training program in anaesthesia or equivalent
* SIA/fellowship or equivalent in a subspecialist area such as paediatrics, regional, obstetrics or colorectal/major surgery
Registration
* Candidate should have full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
* Candidate on the GMC Specialist Register for Anaesthesia (via CCT or CESR/portfolio pathway)
Teaching
* Experience in teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff
* Stage 3, SIA or equivalent level of training in Education and Training (including has met requirements to be a clinical supervisor)
* Further experience in medical education (e.g. simulation instructor, educational qualifications)
* Commitment to work as educational supervisor
Research/Publications
* Knowledge of research methodology, ability to critically evaluate clinical literature and apply to safe practice
* Ability to work within research governance procedures
* Training in research methodology
* Publications in peer review journals
* Presentations to learned societies
* Evidence of ongoing interest and achievement in research
Language
* Ability to speak and write English to the appropriate standard

* Energy, enthusiasm and the ability to work under pressure
* Proactive approach and flexibility to work within the evolving needs of the department
* Commitment to Continuing Medical Education and Professional Development
