Job Advert Role Description
Job Purpose
To deliver high quality clinical service to patients and to work closely with the unit’s multidisciplinary team, Resident Medical Officer (RMO), and General Practitioner to ensure that patients receive a holistic and person-centric treatment programme based on the recovery model.
Knowledge / Education / Skills
This post requires an MB.BS or equivalent, GMC registration, and a license to practice. Candidates should be in good standing with the Royal College of Psychiatrists for CPD and have had an appraisal or RITA in the last year.
Experience
The doctor will hold a CCST / CCT (or equivalent) in Psychiatry and have experience working in inpatient settings with individuals experiencing significant mental health difficulties.
Communication
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential for building trust with patients and effective collaboration with relatives, GPs, CMHTs, care coordinators, and acute trusts.
Responsibility
Shared responsibility for maintaining the confidentiality, security, and accuracy of patient records and ensuring documentation meets regulatory and statutory standards.
Safeguarding
All staff must protect vulnerable individuals, be aware of local safeguarding procedures, and attend relevant training.
Work Environment
Expect physical stamina and emotional resilience; unsociable hours may be required.

Additional Responsibilities
* Undertake psychiatric and external assessments under supervision.
* Prepare discharge summaries and reports.
* Participate in learning, supervision, and clinical governance activities.
* Ensure medical cover through effective teamwork and on-call duties.
* Support GPs in physical health care and emergency treatment.
* Assist in blood collection, clinical testing, and observation review.
