Finance Manager – Full-Time | On-Site (West Midlands)

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Manager to take the lead on day‑to‑day financial operations within a respected and values‑driven organisation. This role is ideal for a technically strong, hands‑on finance professional who thrives in a varied environment and enjoys driving improvements, developing people, and overseeing robust financial management.
The Role
As Finance Manager, you will oversee the smooth running of financial reporting, planning, analysis, and compliance. You'll manage a Finance team, ensure strong internal controls, and support the wider leadership team with accurate and timely financial insight.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, develop, and manage the Finance team, including appraisals and ongoing training
Oversee monthly bank and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of outstanding items
Produce, review, and challenge monthly/annual management accounts and forecasts
Support annual budgeting, providing detailed and reliable information to key stakeholders
Manage VAT accounting and completion of quarterly and annual VAT returns
Coordinate and support the external audit process
Maintain and improve internal financial controls, systems, and process documentation
Manage government reporting requirements including HMRC and ONS submissions
Oversee accurate billing processes and support resolution of fee‑related queries
Act as key system contact for finance software, driving improvements in reporting and efficiency
Present management accounts at committee/leadership meetings
Provide financial support for strategic projects, including analysis and modelling
About You
Essential:
Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, ACA, CIMA)
Strong technical accounting knowledge
Proven experience preparing and reviewing management and statutory accounts
Extensive VAT knowledge (including partial exemption)
Experience with payroll/pensions review
Confident communicator able to explain financial concepts to non‑finance stakeholders
Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational skills
Able to manage competing priorities and deliver practical solutions
Positive, collaborative, "can‑do" approach
Desirable:
Experience within education, charities, or similarly regulated environments
Strong understanding of financial systems and digital optimisation
Experience leading and developing high‑performing teams
