Job Overview
We are looking for a Consultant Rheumatologist to join the Rheumatology team at St Mary’s Hospital, Newport, Isle of Wight. The post is full‑time with no on‑call commitments.
Main Duties
* Deliver and extend comprehensive Rheumatology and DEXA services.
* Support subspecialty development and participate in the Wessex Deanery specialty training programme.
* Provide undergraduate teaching to medical students from Southampton.
* Engage in clinical audit, research and development of services.
* Contribute to the design, review and delivery of the job plan including teaching, research and managerial responsibilities.
Responsibilities
* Clinical practice in Rheumatology, including assessment, diagnosis and management of patients.
* Maintain high standards of care and develop subspecialty interests.
* Participate in teaching, audit and research activities.
* Support undergraduate and postgraduate training programmes.
* Assist in the development and evaluation of service delivery and local research links.
* Contribute to the annual review of the job plan with the Clinical Director/Lead Clinician.
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent.
* MRCP or equivalent.
* Entry on Specialist Register via CCT (or CESR), with CCT date within 6 months of interview.
Experience & Clinical Skills
* Completed a recognised training programme in Rheumatology.
* Demonstrated high level of clinical experience and competence in Rheumatology.
* Knowledge of current trends in the specialty.
Audit, Research, Teaching & Management
* Evidence of participation in clinical audit relevant to rheumatology.
* Experience in postgraduate teaching.
* Knowledge of NHS issues and ability to develop services.
