THE ROLE
This developmental role is for individuals with a good foundation in engineering or project coordination who are eager to grow into a Bid Project Manager position. As a Bid Practitioner, you will support the preparation of technical and commercial proposals for metallurgical plant solutions, ranging from Conceptual Studies to major projects.
You’ll work closely with experienced colleagues within the team and across Sales, Engineering, and Supply Chain to learn the full bid lifecycle. With structured coaching and hands-on experience, you will gradually take on more responsibility and develop the skills needed to lead bids independently.
MAIN TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Under guidance and continuous development, you will:
- Assist in reviewing customer tender documentation to understand technical and commercial requirements.
- Support the definition of bid strategy and planning alongside the Sales team.
- Participate in bid kick-off meetings and plan the pre-project engineering activities.
- Coordinate technical queries and ensure proper documentation practices.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical bid documents using inputs from engineering teams. You will learn to use the companies database to develop scope lists.
- Co-ordinate estimation activities across departments and compile manhour estimates.
- Develop equipment lists, bills of quantities, and vendor lists for cost estimation.
- Participate in schedule development and resource planning discussions.
- Contribute to the development of technical risk registers and legislative compliance reviews.
- Co-ordinate internal design reviews.
- Assist in preparing handover documentation to the project execution teams.
- Engage in continuous improvement activities, including lessons learned and proposal tool enhancements.
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
Knowledge & Skills:
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Interest in industrial technologies and engineering solutions.
- Willingness to learn project economics and develop commercial awareness.
- Good capability with Microsoft Office; SAP and AutoCAD
- Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing priorities.
- Fluent in English; other languages are an asset.
Experience:
- Attainment of, or working towards, a Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Metallurgical, or engineering discipline).
- Some experience in engineering, project coordination, or commercial roles.
- Preparation of technical documentation and customer-facing activities.
- Enthusiasm for learning and development within a structured team environment.
