This is a strategic and hands-on role, responsible for leading the organisation’s legal function while supporting robust governance, procurement, and risk oversight.
💥 As General Counsel, you will:
* Serve as the organisation’s most senior legal advisor, overseeing all legal matters and managing legal risk.
* Act as Company Secretary or Board Secretary, supporting the Board and Committees to ensure strong governance and compliance with statutory obligations.
* Lead legal input on contracts, procurement activity, and key organisational policies.
* Provide high-quality, solution-focused advice to senior leaders, Board members, and stakeholders.
* Develop and implement governance frameworks and risk management strategies.
* Represent the organisation in key legal matters and external engagements when required.
💥 What we’re looking for:
* A degree or postgraduate qualification in Law, or part/full qualification with the Chartered Governance Institute (CGI), with significant experience in a senior legal or Company Secretary role.
* Strong understanding of legal, governance, and risk practices in the public, charity, or regulated sectors.
* Strategic mindset with the ability to influence at Board and executive level.
* Exceptional relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders.
* Proactive, detail-focused, and capable of balancing strategic priorities with operational delivery.
* Experience within the public or not-for-profit sector is an advantage.
💥 What we offer:
* A senior leadership role in a purpose-driven organisation.
* Flexible/hybrid working (if applicable).
* Professional development and access to legal/governance networks.
* Generous holiday allowance and pension scheme.
* A supportive, collaborative culture with a focus on impact.
