Job Description
Currently we have an excellent opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join a 36-bed acute inpatient mental health service for men and women with enduring mental health problems in Exeter. You’ll work within an established MDT, providing high-quality clinical leadership while contributing to the ongoing strategic development of the service and wider hospital.
Salary: Up to £170,000 per annum DOE
Position: Consultant Psychiatrist
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Setting: Acute inpatient adult mental health service (36 beds)
Location: Exeter, Devon
Your key responsibilities will be:
* Act as Responsible Clinician for an acute adult inpatient ward
* Lead clinical decision‑making and manage complex psychiatric cases
* Formulate care plans and deliver evidence-based treatments and interventions
* Participate in MDT meetings, ward reviews and CPA meetings
* Support and supervise Associate Specialist and wider MDT colleagues
* Ensure compliance with the Mental Health Act and relevant legislation
* Contribute to clinical governance, audits and ongoing service development
For this role, we’re looking for someone who has:
* MRCPsych or recognised equivalent, approved by Royal College of Psychiatrists
* CCT/CESR (or equivalent experience) in General Adult Psychiatry desirable
* Section 12(2) approval and Approved Clinician status (or eligibility)
* Significant experience in acute inpatient or community adult mental health
* Strong skills in risk assessment, risk management and independent clinical decision‑making
* Candidates without CCT/CESR but with AC status and extensive experience in acute inpatient and working in senior medical/consultant type roles may be considered.
