Temporary Emerging Teaching Artist (Instrumental)

Big Noise Govanhill, Glasgow

14 hours per week

£29,613 per annum, pro rata in year one (£16.27 per hour)

£30,949 per annum, pro rata in year two (£17.00 per hour)

Pay award from 1st July 2026 pending

By playing music together in ensembles and orchestras, we aim to grow confidence, respect, teamwork and aspiration in the children, young people and communities we work with.

We deliver our work through six Big Noise programmes: Govanhill in Glasgow, Raploch & Fallin in Stirling, Torry in Aberdeen, Douglas in Dundee and Wester Hailes in Edinburgh.


About the Role

We are looking for a temporary Emerging Teaching Artist to work within the Govanhill community in Glasgow, working 14 hours a week between Monday and Thursday (exact hours & days to be agreed) all year round until 23rd June 2028.

This is a graduate/early career role, designed to build experience and teaching skills whilst supporting the Big Noise team to deliver in the Govanhill community of Glasgow. You will work closely with Big Noise Musicians and Support Workers to support & deliver Big Noise sessions and instrumental lessons. Emerging Teaching Artists are also offered training opportunities on topics such as positive behaviour, lesson planning, and various methodologies including the Big Noise curriculum.


Responsibilities

* Support and deliver Big Noise sessions and instrumental lessons.
* Collaborate with Big Noise Musicians and Support Workers.
* Participate in training on positive behaviour, lesson planning and Big Noise methodologies.


Qualifications

* Upper Strings or Lower Strings as principal instrument.
* Professional standard of playing (at least grade 8 or equivalent) on your principal instrument.
* Knowledge of the Big Noise programme.
* A passion for working in a community setting with music.

The selection process will be held in Govanhill in Glasgow week beginning 6th July 2026 and will include a panel interview, a short audition and a short demonstration lesson with a group of young people.
