Job Description:
NHS Education for Scotland is leading a programme, funded by the Scottish Government, to support the professional development of Specialist, Associate Specialist, and Specialty Doctors and Dentists, who are a significant part of the NHS Workforce. This development is supported by a dedicated SAS Professional Development Fund, which SAS Doctors and Dentists can apply to beyond their contractual entitlement to study leave, to access significant training opportunities that enhance clinical service delivery and improve patient safety and care. The aims of the SAS Development Programme include supporting SAS Doctors who have not completed a CCT but may achieve entry onto the specialist register through the Portfolio Pathway to Specialist Registration (formerly CESR).
The SAS Education Adviser will play a key leadership role locally, working with the Director of Medical Education (DME), to support all substantive SAS grades employed in their health board to achieve their professional development goals.
We are seeking an innovative and enthusiastic individual to serve as a local SAS Education Adviser within a national managed educational network. Responsibilities include:
1. Identifying and communicating with the local SAS community regarding their development needs and career aspirations.
2. Facilitating SAS doctors and dentists to align their training needs with service development and improvement.
3. Supporting SAS doctors in collecting evidence for their portfolio/PDP for appraisal, revalidation, and Portfolio Pathway (formerly CESR) purposes.
4. Assisting in the submission of professional funding applications for the local SAS community.
5. Raising awareness of training and development opportunities for SAS Doctors and Dentists.
6. Participating in Quality Management.
7. Engaging in the national managed educational network of Education Advisers.
