Job Summary
Provide a comprehensive administrative service to a consultant and/or group of medical staff in an efficient and timely manner.
Responsibilities
* Supervise and train junior staff and manage team members where appropriate.
* Assist in training newly appointed temporary, locum or other secretaries and support their assimilation.
* Manage outpatient referrals in accordance with the Trust’s Waiting List Policy.
* Add patients to the IP/DC waiting list in line with the Trust’s policy.
* Coordinate speciality waiting lists and PTLs, including Cancer PTL, within the framework of the Trust’s Waiting List Policy.
* Work with Waiting List Managers to meet key performance standards related to patient access.
* Prioritise own workload, including typing of clinic lists, discharge summaries and medical reports.
* Maintain effective communication with all members of the multidisciplinary team.
* Sort and handle all correspondence, maintaining a satisfactory record and filing system.
* Collate results with patient casenotes and ensure they are seen and acted upon promptly by the relevant clinician.
Person Specification
Essential
* Previous demonstrable experience as a medical secretary.
* Knowledge of Primary Target Lists and waiting list management.
* Education at GCSE A* to C (or equivalent) and demonstrable audio‑typing experience.
Desirable
* NHS experience.
* Knowledge of cancer targets.
