Head of Risk and Audit

The Head of Risk and Audit, part of the Legal & Compliance team based in Swindon, will oversee Health and Safety, Compliance, and Audit functions. This role involves completing planned audit assignments, reviewing core systems, and assessing controls across TGJones to manage financial, operational, reputational, and compliance risks. The role requires collaboration within a small team, managing audits from planning to reporting, and liaising with stakeholders to ensure findings are addressed effectively.
What you will be doing:
* Undertaking audit assignments as per the annual audit plan approved by the TGJones Operating Board.
* Coordinating with auditees on schedules and contacts.
* Creating scope documents for audits ('terms of reference').
* Applying risk-based methodologies to identify key risk issues.
* Conducting fieldwork to evaluate controls within systems and processes.
* Interviewing staff and testing system controls.
* Drafting audit reports, including executive summaries and findings.
* Reviewing reports with the Company Secretary/Legal Director for approval.
* Collaborating with management to finalize reports and action plans.
* Following up on previous audit recommendations.
* Participating in ad hoc reviews, fraud investigations, stocktakes, and risk register updates.
* Maintaining audit documentation and visiting sites across the UK as needed.
* Reviewing and implementing business policies.
* Ensuring effective governance and risk management programs in partnership with the business.
* Coordinating with external auditors and SMEs to adhere to best practices.
* Managing and developing the audit team, including direct reports.
What we are looking for:
* Experience managing a team.
* Internal Audit experience is essential.
* Retail experience is preferred but not mandatory.
* Fire Risk Assessment training is advantageous.
* Strong report writing skills.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and relationship-building ability.
* Proactive and motivated approach.
* Accounting qualifications may be beneficial.
