We are now looking for a number of individuals from occupational health backgrounds with nursing accreditations and registration to retrain into Occupational Health Inspector positions on a full‑time, permanent basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity for SCPHN‑OH occupational health professionals to refocus their careers and take on an Occupational Health Inspector position with Britain’s national regulator for workplace health and safety.

You’ll be supported through a Specialist Training Programme (STP) to gain the skills and expertise to become a safety inspector. You will enrol on the STP and undertake a combination of study, practical experience and a final assessment, ensuring you are equipped to operate at the forefront of your specialist area.

The Role

As an Occupational Health Inspector, after completing the STP, you will use your specialist occupational health expertise to help protect workers across a wide range of industries, ensuring health risks are identified, managed and controlled appropriately.

Working across sectors ranging from construction, manufacturing and engineering to agriculture, waste and recycling and the public sector, you will investigate work‑related ill‑health concerns, inspect workplaces and instruct employers to improve standards.

Providing specialist advice to support enforcement decisions and reports, you will assist colleagues, contribute to the development of technical policy and guidance, and promote occupational health through industry and professional forums.


Additionally, you will:

* Coach and support trainee inspectors and colleagues
* Appear as an expert witness at tribunals, inquests and legal proceedings

Please note, enrolment in the Specialist Training Programme (STP) is a legal requirement that you will be required to study for and successfully complete.


About You

To be considered as an Occupational Health Inspector, you will need:

* Sound practical experience and technical expertise in occupational health
* To be a Registered Nurse and Registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (Occupational Health) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
* Entitlement to use the SCPHN‑OH designation (through qualification or similar)
* Experience of assessing and managing workplace health risks and applying appropriate control measures
* Experience of developing policies and written arrangements to protect worker health
* Experience of managing health surveillance arrangements relating to hearing, skin, respiratory and vibration risks
* Experience of monitoring the quality and effectiveness of occupational health service delivery
* Experience of managing musculoskeletal disorders, work‑related stress and broader occupational diseases
* A nursing degree
* A second degree or PGDip in Occupational Health that is recordable on the Nursing and Midwifery Council professional register
* A full UK driving licence

Please note, this role will require regular travel and occasional overnight stays.
