Our client is a Design & Build electrical contractor focused on delivering high-quality commercial office fit-out projects. They collaborate closely with leading Design & Build partners, developers, and end-clients to produce coordinated, buildable electrical solutions. They pride themselves on aligning their designs with project timelines, cost plans, and real-world installation constraints.
The Role
This entry-level role supports the electrical design delivery across various commercial fit-out schemes. You will work under the supervision of a Senior Designer to translate concept information into full, coordinated design packages (typically Stage 3–4). This is an excellent opportunity to develop fundamental skills in commercial electrical building services and work directly with the delivery team, suppliers, and pre-construction colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in developing the electrical design scope from early stages through to final construction documentation.
* Review initial consultant information (RIBA Stage 2–3) and flag potential inconsistencies or coordination issues to the Senior Designer.
* Prepare fundamental electrical design deliverables, including initial layouts for lighting, power, containment, and emergency lighting, under guidance.
* Learn and assist with basic calculations, such as initial cable sizing, load assessments, and drafting simple distribution layouts.
* Provide basic technical support to the project delivery team, escalating complex design queries to senior staff.
* Attend design meetings and confidently present and articulate simple design points and rationale when guided by the lead designer.
* Review supplier/subcontractor technical drawings for basic compliance and alignment with the overall design intent.
* Adhere to and learn design risk management principles, ensuring work complies with relevant standards (e.g., BS 7671, BS 5266, CIBSE guidelines).
* Maintain clear design folders, revision control, and traceable records of design decisions.
Required Skills and Experience
* A relevant degree (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Building Services) or 1 year of practical experience in a building services or electrical design environment.
* An eagerness to learn and take ownership of assigned design tasks.
* A fundamental understanding of electrical building services systems, including lighting, power, and containment.
* Competence in AutoCAD is required. Familiarity with Revit is a bonus.
* Basic theoretical knowledge of lighting controls (DALI), LV distribution, and relevant electrical regulations (e.g., BS 7671).
* Strong problem-solving ability with a pragmatic approach to technical issues.
* Comfortable participating in technical discussions and taking detailed notes
