Overview
We are seeking patient, caring and alert Support Workers for Luke, born in 2012. Luke is a sociable young boy who loves swimming, walking, physical play, and leisure outings. He lives at home with his mother. Luke is non-verbal and requires full support for personal care and 24/7 supervision due to learning disability and limited awareness of danger. The role involves supporting Luke with personal care and facilitating meaningful activities in and out of the home.
Location, Schedule and Pay
Location: Ipswich, IP10
Days & Hours: Bank hours, various shifts available including evenings, weekends and school holidays
Pay: Weekdays £15.50; Weekends £16.50
Driver required? Essential (need own car to get to work)
Using Own Vehicle for work purposes? Yes, on duty and to attend trainings
Role and Responsibilities
* Support Luke with personal care and enable access to meaningful activities in and out of the home
* Provide close supervision at all times to ensure safety
* Learn and use non-verbal communication methods and Luke’s talk pad
* Be water confident to support swimming activities
* Use positive language, repeat instructions, and allow Luke time to complete tasks
* Engage in activities such as "hide and seek" and other play to keep him calm and engaged
* Communicate effectively with Luke, family members, and other support workers
Experience and Qualifications
* Essential: Understanding of non-verbal communication (e.g., Makaton and talk pad)
* Desirable: Experience working with children
* Evidence of eligibility to work in the UK and satisfactory references
* DBS check (enhanced) or willingness to obtain
