SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Strensall
Salary: £88 – £110 per day
Contract: Full-Time
Start Date: January 2026
GSL Education are seeking an SEN Teaching Assistant to work in a specialist Alternative Provision in the Strensall area. The role involves supporting learners who require a highly personalised and nurturing approach.
About the School
The provision supports children aged 4–16 through tailored teaching, small groups and a strong focus on emotional development and communication. Staff help pupils build confidence, regulate emotions and progress at their own pace.
SEN Teaching Assistant Responsibilities
• Provide 1:1 and group support for pupils with SEND and SEMH
• Assist with academic, social and emotional programmes
• Promote positive behaviour, resilience and engagement
• Contribute to a calm and structured learning atmosphere
Requirements
• Experience supporting young people with complex needs
• Ability to follow personalised plans and maintain consistent boundaries
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• Empathy, patience and a supportive manner
• Understanding of how SEND and SEMH impact learning
• Ability to work closely with teachers and pastoral staff
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply
