Following significant organisational change, we are strengthening our Financial Management structure to support the Trust as it progresses through the second year of its multiyear financial recovery plan. We are seeking motivated individuals who aspire to become future leaders within our department.
Reporting to the Deputy Head of Finance, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high‑quality business and financial support across both the Care Group and Corporate Group. The role also involves close collaboration with the Associate Head of Financial Management and colleagues across the wider finance function to ensure strong, cohesive financial stewardship. The ideal candidates will be a fully qualified finance professional or an aspiring trainee working toward full qualification.

Key Responsibilities
* Actively support the Deputy Head of Finance in leading on the financial aspects of service delivery within the Care Group or Corporate Group including CIP delivery.
* Adopt a proactive and assertive approach when working with other customers and finance colleagues.
* Consolidate the Directorate financial position with comprehensive understanding of the key drivers.
* Develop plans to mitigate adverse performance and capitalise on opportunities aligned with Deputy Head of Finance and Head of Finance strategic direction.
* Interact in a positive and supportive way with Directorate Leadership Teams, Speciality Leadership Teams, budget managers, customers and colleagues.
* Demonstrate corporate awareness and maintain confidentiality and discretion.
* Support the Deputy Head of Finance and Leadership Team in the delivery of key business objectives, including financial recovery and Quality Service Improvement Recovery Plans.
* Contribute to idea generation, development, costing and monitoring of CIP plans at directorate and speciality level.
* Provide business support and advice to Directorate Leadership Teams, Specialty Leadership Teams and budget managers, including expert knowledge of the financial aspects of NHS legislation and policies.
* Act as finance lead for specific work stream projects, as agreed with the Deputy Head of Finance and Associate Head of Financial Management.
* Ensure regular meetings with Directorate Leadership Teams and Specialty Leadership Teams are undertaken and that finance training is provided as required.
* Develop and monitor Directorate and Specialty reporting to provide financial advice, both operationally and strategically, to the leadership teams, Senior Managers and budget managers.
* Support the Deputy Head of Finance in developing business proposals for inclusion within the service level agreement proposals for commissioners.
* Provide costing and financial input to business cases ensuring understanding of the impact to the Directorate position prior to Head of Finance sign‑off.
* Provide information to aid negotiations with ICB, DHSC, local authorities, universities and commercial organisations on the financial aspects of the Care Group or Corporate Group service delivery and development.
* Support the Deputy Head of Finance in coordinating financial management duties to agreed corporate standards and timetables.
* Produce monthly Directorate and Specialty performance reports, validating reports and providing insightful narrative around drivers and planned recovery actions.
* Produce robust year‑end financial forecasts including income, expenditure and CIP for the responsible directorates.
* Provide financial information for budget setting and financial performance reviews.
* Maintain the integrity of the general ledger including budget maintenance.
* Handle service change / development costing.
* Identify financial and service risks through financial modelling.
* Provide input to the national cost collection exercise in line with latest guidance.
* Provide finance training to staff across the Trust aligned to the departmental objectives.
* Support the Deputy Head of Finance with reporting and monitoring the Care Group or Corporate Group capital schemes.
* Ensure consistent application of good business and accounting practice within Directorate and Specialties as well as across the Care Group or Corporate Group.
* Ensure compliance with:
o NHS Manual of Accounts
o SFIs
o Scheme of Delegation
o Scheme of Budgetary Control
o Relevant accounting standards and practices, including the adoption of accruals and commitment‑based accounting principles, in the production of financial reports.
* Support the Deputy Head of Finance in managing a team of staff to provide a financial management service to the Trust, including allocation of work, recruitment, training and development, appraisal, sickness monitoring and authorisation of leave and absence.
* Undertake project work in support of process change.
* Support the Deputy Head of Finance in developing benchmarking and other techniques to challenge performance and improve overall economy, efficiency and effectiveness.
* Depute for the Deputy Head of Finance on specific projects and as required on adhoc occasions.
* Review own work activities/processes and recommend or implement improvements to working practices.
* Ensure strong financial control and robust governance arrangements are in place throughout the Care Group or Corporate Group.
Corporate Role
* Support the Associate Head of Financial Management and Head of Finance in the preparation of accurate and timely monthly and annual management and financial accounts.
* Support the Assistant Director of Finance and Heads of Finance in developing a professional training programme for all finance staff.
Common to Senior Finance Staff
* Attend regular senior Financial Management meetings and contribute to the discussion.
* Contribute to the continuous development and quality improvement of the department, specifically:
o Improving the quality of financial reporting.
o Improving the awareness and understanding of financial issues across the Trust.
* Maintain and develop working relationships within and outside the Trust.
* Ensure compliance with appropriate HR policies and practices.
* Undertake post‑qualification and personal development.
* Maintain focus on the task in hand, despite frequent interruptions (telephone/people).
* Undertake other duties as specified by the Head of Financial Management and Deputy Head of Finance as appropriate to the post.
