Overview

Social & Emotional Wellbeing Youth Worker. Salary: £26,450 per annum (pro rata). Contract: Fixed term (up to 24 months). Hours: 30 hours per week, flexible working. Location: Dorchester, with county wide travel.

Be part of something new. Make a lasting impact.

Are you passionate about helping young people thrive? Do you have experience supporting young people facing challenges with their social and/or emotional wellbeing? Are you ready to empower young people to overcome barriers and take one step beyond towards a brighter future?

Dorset Youth, in partnership with Dorset County Hospital, is launching an exciting new pilot service to support young people aged 11–25 living with long-term health conditions, as well as those who regularly attend A&E.

This is more than just a youth work role — you’ll be making a real difference to young people’s lives by helping them navigate challenges, build resilience, and connect with the right support at the right time.

What you’ll do

* Build trusted, meaningful relationships with young people and provide personalised support based on their needs.
* Help young people improve their social and emotional wellbeing, enabling them to manage daily challenges and build independence.
* Deliver 1-to-1 support, group sessions, and community-based activities to engage and empower young people.
* Work closely with Dorset County Hospital teams, community partners, and voluntary organisations to connect young people with the right services.
* Support young people to explore opportunities, develop life skills, and gain confidence.

What we’re looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you:

* Have a Youth Work qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) or significant experience working with young people.
* Are passionate about supporting young people’s social and emotional wellbeing.
* Understand safeguarding, risk assessment, and safe working practices.
* Are creative, adaptable, and able to connect with young people from a range of backgrounds.
* Can work flexibly, including some evenings and weekends.
* Hold a valid driving licence and are willing to travel across Dorset and occasionally further afield, transporting young people in your own vehicle (business insurance cover and breakdown cover required).

Why join Dorset Youth?

* Make a real impact: You’ll directly support young people to overcome barriers and thrive.
* Innovative new service: Be part of a 2 year pilot project shaping youth support in Dorset.
* Supportive environment: Join a passionate team that values creativity, collaboration, and personal growth.
* Varied and rewarding work: Every day is different — from 1:1 support to group activities and community engagement.
* Contract: Fixed term until 31st December 2028
* Hours: 30 hours per week, flexible working
* Location: Dorchester, with county wide travel
* DBS: Enhanced check required
* References: Two references required
