Join to apply for the Gas Turbine Stress Engineer role at Hill Helicopters
Join a leading UK helicopter OEM as aGas Turbine Stress Engineersupporting the structural integrity and durability of advanced gas turbine engines for civil rotorcraft applications. This is a unique opportunity to work within a fast-paced, innovative environment on a new light helicopter programme, applying advanced finite element analysis to complex rotating and stationary engine components.
The role involves leveragingANSYS FEA tools alongside engineering judgement and industry best practices to ensure gas turbine components meet demanding performance, safety, and certification requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform detailed structural and thermal stress analyses on gas turbine engine components usingANSYSfinite element software.
* Develop and maintain finite element models for rotating parts (compressors, turbines, shafts) and static components (casings, ducts, mounts).
* Assess stress, strain, vibration, thermal expansion, fatigue, and creep under operating conditions.
* Work closely with design, materials, manufacturing, and test teams to ensure component robustness and durability.
* Provide technical input to design reviews and support root cause analysis of stress-related issues.
* Prepare comprehensive stress reports and certification documentation aligned with aerospace standards.
* Support continuous improvement of analysis methods, best practices, and tools within the gas turbine engineering team.
* Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team environment focused on delivering a successful rotorcraft propulsion system.
Requirements:
* Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline.
* Proven experience usingANSYSfor finite element analysis of gas turbine or rotating machinery components.
* Strong understanding of stress analysis fundamentals including thermal, vibration, fatigue, and creep phenomena.
* Knowledge of gas turbine engine architecture and critical load cases.
* Ability to interpret complex load spectra and apply engineering judgement to modelling strategies.
* Good communication skills and ability to produce clear, detailed technical documentation.
* Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative working style.
* Experience in rotorcraft gas turbine engines or similar aerospace propulsion systems.
* Experience with small gas turbine engines is extremely beneficial.
* Familiarity with materials behaviour at elevated temperatures and creep-fatigue interactions.
* Exposure to certification processes and aerospace industry standards.
* Knowledge of scripting or automation within ANSYS or post-processing tools.
What We Offer:
* An exciting role contributing to a new civil helicopter programme with cutting-edge propulsion technology.
* Access to advanced FEA tools, high-performance computing resources, and a skilled engineering team.
