Occupational Therapy Assistant, Band 4
Islington Community Neurological Rehabilitation Team provides community-based multidisciplinary rehabilitation to adults with neurological and complex physical disabilities. We are a dynamic team committed to responsive and effective service delivery.
Under supervision of a senior therapist, you will support occupational therapy and other team professions to deliver interventions for clients with physical, cognitive, and psychological needs, including supporting individuals post-stroke or with other neurological conditions in managing daily activities.
Main duties of the job
Assist qualified therapists in delivering routine and non-routine therapeutic treatments aimed at increasing clients' independence and confidence. Work progressively with minimal supervision in assessments, treatments, and discharges. Conduct mobility assessments for applications such as Freedom Pass, Taxi Card, and Blue Badge, and support group activities.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
* Provide community neurological rehabilitation for clients with various neurological conditions.
* Complete assessments delegated by senior therapists, such as activities of daily living, falls, and mobility assessments.
* Assist in planning and implementing care and treatment plans under professional guidance.
* Establish respectful relationships with clients, considering their views, autonomy, and culture.
* Communicate with relatives, carers, and other agencies regarding client progress.
* Support clients in achieving goals through guided activities, using clinical knowledge and life skills.
* Observe and analyze client responses to therapy, providing feedback to therapists.
* Assist with assessments and provide feedback on client functioning and progress.
* Order, test, and fit equipment as directed, considering client needs.
* Contribute to the safe, effective running of the service through delegated tasks.
* Participate in meetings and maintain accurate clinical records.
Education and Supervision Responsibilities
* Attend monthly supervision with senior therapists.
* Participate in performance reviews, training, and personal development planning.
* Record learning and develop competence through training activities.
* Share knowledge and skills gained from courses with colleagues.
* Assist in training and mentoring new or less experienced staff and students.
Administrative
* Maintain accurate contact and activity registers, ensuring confidentiality.
* Ensure proper storage of clinical records.
* Maintain and report on equipment used.
* Undertake administrative duties such as filing, faxing, and reception tasks.
* Monitor and order supplies.
* Attend team meetings and participate in governance, policy development, and audits.
Physical Effort
* Work in patients' homes, often in restricted spaces, and perform manual handling procedures.

Require concentration during activities and observations, sometimes with unpredictable work patterns involving patients with cognitive impairments.
