Macmillan Emergency Palliative Care Associate Nurse (Internal Only)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to undertake a secondment as a Macmillan Palliative Emergency Nurse (Band 6) within East Cheshire NHS Trust, based at Macclesfield District General Hospital.
The successful post holder will work within the Emergency Department (ED) and Medical Assessment Unit (MAU), providing specialist palliative care support to patients presenting with life-limiting illness. The role focuses on delivering high-quality, patient-centred care, supporting timely assessment, symptom management, and ensuring patients are cared for in the most appropriate setting.
This is a development opportunity for an experienced nurse wishing to enhance their knowledge and skills within specialist palliative and emergency care.

Main duties of the job
* Deliver specialist palliative care to patients presenting in emergency settings
* Undertake holistic assessments and develop personalised care plans
* Act as a palliative care key worker in ED, coordinating care across acute and community services
* Support patient flow and avoid unnecessary admissions where appropriate
* Provide palliative care advice and support to patients, families, and staff
* Contribute to education, training, and service development
* Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to improve patient outcomes

Qualification
* RGN (Registered General Nurse)/RN (Registered Nurse)/RSCN (Registered Sick Children’s Nurse)
* Nursing Degree
* Degree module in specialist area or working towards this or be prepared to study at this level
* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Non-medical prescriber
* Communication/counselling skills training
Knowledge
* Knowledge of recent NHS legislation, recommendations
* Awareness of the national and local priorities and changing trends in specialist area
* Evidence of knowledge within specialist area
Skills
* Ability to make appropriate decisions at all levels.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of team
* Proactive, takes own initiative.
* Ability to prioritise workload, achieving a balance between clinical and other aspects of role.

Experience
* Proven post registration experience in a relevant/associated area.
