The family divide their time between Henley on Thames in the UK for approximately 3 months of the year, and the United States for the remainder, primarily between Colorado and Savannah, Georgia, with regular holiday travel to destinations such as the Bahamas. This is a truly international role suited to a confident, travel ready governess who thrives in dynamic environments and enjoys being deeply embedded within a family. The parents are hands on, hardworking and are seeking a governess who can act as a trusted, capable presence in the home, providing structure, academic challenge, and clear guidance for the children, while also taking meaningful responsibility to ease the parents’ day to day load. The children are bright, curious and highly capable. The boy is academically focused and very gifted, while the girl is creative, expressive, with a love of language and communication. Both children benefit from clear boundaries, consistency, and a traditional, structured English approach to upbringing. The long term intention is for the role to develop into a homeschooling position once the family return to the US for the next academic year. Initially, the governess will support the children alongside schooling, building strong relationships, routines and academic foundations. This is a calm, low traffic household. The family value discretion, self discipline and a no nonsense approach to childcare. They are seeking someone who blends seamlessly into family life, and who genuinely enjoys taking ownership, showing initiative and bringing order, structure and clarity to the children’s world. The family are ideally s eeking a long er term commitment of a minimum of 1 year should a visa sponsorship be required They seek a governess who genuinely wishes to embed herself within the family and grow with the children over time. Key Responsibilities • Delivering all traditional governess duties with a strong academic and developmental focus • Providing high level academic support and challenge for two gifted children • Supporting the transition into homeschooling • Teaching manners, etiquette, respect, independence and strong personal responsibility • Creating and maintaining clear routines, boundaries and expectations • Encouraging focus, discipline and follow through in both learning and daily life • Supporting creative development, language use and expression • Planning and overseeing educational activities, enrichment and schedules • Working closely with parents to ensure consistency and alignment • PA style support where appropriate, assisting parents with logistics and planning • Supporting morning routines, school preparation, after school learning, activities and bedtime routines • Occasional weekend support as needed, with flexibility on both sides Candidate Requirements • Exceptional spoken and written English is essential, with a focus on traditional language use, elocution, and communication skills • Teaching qualification at primary level strongly preferred, or equivalent proven experience • Minimum two years experience in a high calibre private household or equivalent educational setting • Academically strong, disciplined and highly organised • Confident implementing a traditional, structured English upbringing • Calm authority with excellent behaviour management skills • Emotionally intelligent, firm, fair and consistent • Flexible, adaptable and genuinely invested in family life • Confident traveller and happy with frequent international movement • Comfortable driving in the UK and open to driving in the USA, although not essential • Experienced swimmer to assist children in swimming activities • Musically minded highly desirable, any instrument or voice welcomed • Second language a bonus but not required • Health conscious, active and energetic • Discreet, private and respectful of family values • Proactive, capable and thrives on responsibility • Fast learner with natural confidence and a can do attitude Visa support can be explored for the right candidate, and applicants with existing US Visa’s/work permission are particularly welcomed.
