We are seeking an Advanced Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist to continue to lead and develop our frailty pathway within the East Coast inpatient services atScarborough Hospital. This is a pivotal role for a clinician who can provide highly specialist assessment, treatment, and leadership for patients with complex physical, cognitive, psychological, behavioural, and social needs.

You will act as the Lead Specialist Clinician for Frailty shaping service development and supporting the wider occupational therapy workforce to deliver evidence‑based care. This includes providing expert advice, supervision and training to colleagues and students, as well as contributing to research, audit, and service evaluation.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence clinical standards, champion innovation, and embed high‑quality occupational therapy practice across the frailty pathway.

We are looking for someone who has some specialist experience in frailty or a related clinical area and can demonstrate advanced clinical reasoning and the ability to manage complex presentations.

Main duties of the job

This is an opportunity to develop confidence in leading change, supporting others, and promoting best practice.

1. Managing a highly complex clinical caseload using advanced clinical reasoning and occupation‑focused assessment.
2. Leading specialist practice in frailty, ensuring safe, effective, and evidence‑based care.
3. Acting as a resource for highly specialist advice across the Trust.
4. Providing leadership, supervision, and mentorship to staff and students.
5. Driving service development, innovation, and quality improvement initiatives.
6. Contributing to research, audit, and evaluation activities.
7. Communicating complex and sensitive information with clarity, empathy, and professionalism.
8. Collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams and across organisational boundaries

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria

20. Degree or diploma in pre-registration Occupational Therapy
21. Evidence of relevant CPD activities
22. HCPC Registered Occupational Therapist
23. Post graduate qualification relevant to post or willingness to complete

Desirable criteria

24. Membership of Professional body
25. Practice placement supervisor qualification
26. Masters level study within relevant area of practice or research and evidence-based practice

Experience and Knowledge

Essential criteria

27. Experience in specialist role, including the management of a range of specialist conditions, with substantial evidence of additional knowledge acquired through formal and informal clinical supervision
28. Evidence of ability to lead and act as an authority on the management of complex clinical presentations in specialist area
29. Substantial experience of assessment and provision of specialist equipment
30. In-depth understanding of current issues in health care knowledge and understanding of Occupational Therapy Standards of Professional Practice

Desirable criteria

31. Evidence of progression through occupational therapy career pathway or framework
32. Significant experience of training/supporting others (including students) within specialist clinical area
33. Experience of delivering relevant audit/research projects
