Job Description:
The service manager has responsibility for coordinating staff and resources to achieve high standards of care, considering the physical, social, and psychological needs of service users. Ensuring welfare and compliance with standards, statutory, and contractual requirements. Operate within legislative frameworks, promote values and care ethos within the team and home.
The area Service Manager will manage and support managers for 5 supported living projects and community activities for Adults and Children of Lynton Community Care, reporting directly to the Registered Individual.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Refer and assess new service users, liaise with previous care teams, families, and advocates to develop personalized care and risk management plans.
2. Maintain good communication and relationships with service users, relatives, and professionals involved in their care.
3. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and best practices, including the Health and Social Care Act 2008, Health & Safety, COSHH, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
4. Control the home environment, ensuring health and safety legislation and infection control standards are met, including risk assessments and fire checks.
5. Work with CIW to understand and comply with Fundamental Standards, and carry out statutory notifications as required.
6. Manage legal and statutory documentation, including insurance and enrollment documents.
7. Record maintenance issues and ensure appropriate actions are taken.
8. Monitor and investigate complaints, generate reports, and implement corrective actions.
9. Recruit, induct, and train staff, supporting their development and supervision.
10. Promote openness and honesty, support staff decision-making, and foster service improvements.
11. Hold regular staff meetings, support team work, and facilitate supervision opportunities.
12. Build positive relationships with staff, ensuring effective communication mechanisms.
13. Participate in disciplinary processes, including suspensions, investigations, and decisions, in consultation with HR if needed.
14. Manage staff scheduling, absences, holidays, and sickness coverage.
15. Oversee medication management, including ordering, disposal, and auditing.
16. Manage budgets, petty cash, food shopping, and activity budgets.
17. Safeguard service users and handle safeguarding issues.
18. Work with paid personal representatives to ensure legal care plans, including applications for Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
19. Be available out of hours for advice, guidance, and incident response.
20. Attend supervision, participate in CPD, and contribute to strategic decisions and business growth.
21. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, consistent with your skills and competence.
22. Manage financials and write/audit behavioral reports.
The service manager must have skills and qualifications to support both adults and children with learning disabilities.
