Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated and dynamic Maternity Support Worker to join our friendly and dedicated team. You will be working within the Labour ward (Ward 26 and Ward 24) and undertake a range of duties in the Maternity setting under the supervision of a Registered Midwife. The working week covers a 7 day service, 24 hours, 365 days a year. Shifts are 10 or 12 hours (days and nights) with some weekends and bank holidays. Successful applicants will receive a comprehensive orientation programme and appropriate support and training to meet expected competencies.
Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides a full range of hospital and community services for people across East Cheshire, West Cheshire and Chester. The Trust provides high quality planned and emergency care, maternity services and other services at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich, and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford.
The Trust employs over 5,000 staff and provides 500 beds. It is part of Integrated Care Systems and the Cheshire and Merseyside partnership, serving a population of over 2.7 million.
Responsibilities
* Support midwives and the wider maternity teams, mothers and their babies through pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period.
* Perform adult and neonatal observations (vital signs) and document findings.
* Use Trust systems for documentation; maintain computer literacy.
* Deliver Public Health advice as part of your role after appropriate training.
* Take delegated tasks from the Midwife in charge, including running errands, providing administrative support, and transporting samples.
* Contribute to general cleaning of clinical areas as clinics operate.
* Escalate concerns to the Midwife in charge when necessary.
* Adapt to a 7 days per week service with 10 or 12 hour shifts, including weekends and bank holidays.
Qualifications and Skills
* Computer literate and able to use Trust systems for documentation.
* If not already trained, to complete Trust Venepuncture training.
* Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and supportively interact with patients and families.
