Overview
Maintenance - Tradeperson (full time) at Abbeylands Care Home, Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. The role is to support the Estates management team in maintaining the health, safety and presentation of the home and surrounding grounds.
Responsibilities
* Responsible to the Home Manager for the upkeep of the Care Home and surrounding grounds, undertaking planned maintenance to ensure a first-class impression for visitors.
* Ensure smooth operation and serviceability of services such as heating, lighting, plumbing and non-medical equipment required for safe and efficient operation of the Home.
* Maintain the Home exterior including pathways, driveways, flowerbeds, grassed areas, external lighting and signs to ensure they are clear, visible and in good repair.
* Identify and report maintenance defects; engage proactively with stakeholders; carry out allocated tasks inside and outside the site to a high standard.
* Undertake decorating, including painting and wallpapering, minor refurbishment and general maintenance within the home.
* Provide out-of-hours emergency service by participating in the on-call rota and provide temporary cover for sister homes as required.
* Be suitably trained to be an active Fire Warden; induct new staff as required and stay up to date with policy and procedures including required training.
* Assemble/install new equipment/goods delivered to the home.
* Assist with fire and water risk assessments and reviews; carry out plumbing, joinery and general building repairs to a high standard.
* Maintain the company vehicle and carry out basic safety checks.
* Promote independence and lifestyle opportunities for older people; work unsupervised when required; carry out fault finding and basic repairs to equipment (e.g., catering and laundering machines).
* Contribute to a team-focused environment and support continuous learning and development opportunities.
Qualifications and Experience
* Background in maintenance, joinery or carpentry, electrical, or plumbing trades; hands-on experience in general trades and building maintenance.
* Enthusiastic and able to work to a high standard with residents and stakeholders.
* Willingness to participate in on-call duties and temporary cover for other homes as needed.
* Good health and safety awareness; able to promote a safe environment in the home.
