Purpose
Established in 1986, City in the Community is Manchester City’s official charity. We support people across Manchester by empowering healthier lives through football. Our programmes place physical and mental wellbeing at their core, whilst also creating healthy futures and healthy communities.
The purpose of the Community Coach – BTEC role is to deliver a high-quality BTEC Sport programme in partnership with a CITC partner colleges, serving as a positive role model and mentor to participants while supporting their academic, personal, and physical development. The role also contributes to programme recruitment and visibility through active engagement in school, college, football club, and community events – including out-of-hours activities.
Accountabilities
Plan and deliver high-quality practical football and sport sessions as part of the BTEC programme, ensuring consistency with programme expectations and standards.
Collaborate with the Education Officer – BTEC and Lead Coach to support the successful delivery of CITC’s matchday programme, including out-of-hours fixtures.
Take shared accountability for student progress, KPI reporting, and programme outcomes while building and maintaining effective partnerships with colleges.
Build strong relationships with learners and monitor their attendance, punctuality, and behaviour at training sessions and fixtures.
Develop strong working relationships with teaching staff and education providers to support an engaging and dynamic curriculum offer.
Represent CITC at events with partner colleges, schools, and local football teams – including parent evenings, career fairs, and community events – to increase recruitment and programme visibility. Some of these events may take place outside of regular working hours and will require flexibility.
Support wider CITC 16+ programmes as required, demonstrating adaptability and maintaining high delivery standards.
Ensuring that CITC’s Safeguarding policy and procedures are embedded to the highest standard across the team. Work to ensure that safeguarding practices and principles are adhered to, ensuring our legal and moral obligations towards the framework.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
Understanding of coaching within Further Education/BTEC programmes
Experience planning and delivering inclusive, high-quality coaching sessions
Experience working with schools, colleges, and other educational stakeholders
Confidence in organising and delivering recruitment or community engagement events
Experience working within a brand environment and representing a high-profile organisation
Minimum GCSEs in English, Maths, and Science
Minimum FA Level 2 (UEFA C) Coaching Certificate,
Experience managing or coaching a competitive sports team
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Full UK driving licence, held for a minimum of 2 years
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Creative, passionate, and committed to continuous improvement

Collaborative and inclusive team player
Desirable
Educated to degree level in Sport Coaching, Sport Science or a related field
Experience working in a competitive sporting environment
UEFA B Coaching Certificate in Football
Coaching qualifications in other relevant sports
Understanding of CITC and its programmes
Mentoring qualification or experience mentoring young people
Experience managing behaviour and building relationships with young people
Experience working in youth work or pastoral support settings
Excellent motivational and communication skills
D1 licence or minibus driving qualification/experience
